Going through the global solar Atlas, we could count up to 148 countries across the world that are in the Sun Belt. The popular ones are China, Saudi Arabia, Australia, India and South Africa.

The Sun Belt is a geographical location on the world map -between 35'N and 35'S of the equator-characterised by high solar radiation (or irradiation); usually an average of 9–11 hours of sunshine daily.

Most of the countries in the global sun belt are concentrated in the Middle East-North Africa (MENA) region, with Saudi Arabia being the region’s leader in this regard.

African countries located within the Belt include Morocco, Algeria, Egypt, Tunisia, Libya, Nigeria, Ghana, Zambia, Angola, Cameroon, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Kenya, South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, to list a few.

These African nations are not only attractive destinations for solar PV investment but also wind energy development. When next you think of where to invest in renewable energy, think of these African nations.
